چکیده

Objective: To determine the initial mechanical stabilization of conventional glass ionomer cements (GICs) indicated for atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) in different storage periods. Material and Methods: Specimens were divided according to GIC (n=12): IZ - Ion-Z, KM Ketac Molar Easymix, RS Riva Self Cure, GL Gold Label 9. They prepared stored distilled water. Superficial microhardness (SMH) was evaluated (KHN) three phases: (A) after 1, (B) 3, (C) 7 days storage. Data submitted 2-way ANOVA Tukey tests (α = 5%). Results: The average KHN values phases A, B, C were, respectively, 33.05 ± 9.74; 33.21 10.31 52.07 11.75 (IZ); 50.35 11.39; 66.05 10.48 67.77 13.80 (KM); 89.63 15.59; 71.31 23.86 57.70 16.89 (RS); 42.18 9.03; 68.54 6.83 57.95 8.24 (GL). Significant differences observed: GIC, time, interaction both (p<0.05). differed between groups, except parameter GL. time phase A lower than those B C, RS. Conclusion: types tested final period, all had similar SMH.

Do conventional glass ionomer cements release more fluoride than resin-modified glass ionomer cements?

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the fluoride release of conventional glass ionomer cements (GICs) and resin-modified GICs. MATERIALS AND METHODS The cements were grouped as follows: G1 (Vidrion R, SS White), G2 (Vitro Fil, DFL), G3 (Vitro Molar, DFL), G4 (Bioglass R, Biodinâmica), and G5 (Ketac Fil, 3M ESPE), as conventional GICs, and G6 (Vitremer, 3M ESPE), G7 (Vitro Fil LC,...

Improving mechanical properties of glass ionomer cements with fluorhydroxyapatite nanoparticles

Glass ionomer cements show great potential as low cost, minimally invasive dental restorative materials. However, their use is limited by relatively poor mechanical properties, especially fracture toughness. One possibility for improving their fracture toughness is through the addition of fluorhydroxyapatite nanoparticles, which resemble the crystals found in tooth enamel. Hydroxyapatite and fl...

Glass ionomer cements.

Glass ionomer cements have been used in pediatric restorative dentistry for 20 years. Their usefulness in pediatric restorative dentistry is preferential relative to other materials because of their fluoride release, chemical adhesion to tooth structure, and availability to use in a variety of clinical scenarios. This paper reviews the use of glass ionomer materials in pediatric restorative den...

Effects of N-Vinylcaprolactam Containing Polyacids and Zirconia on Mechanical Properties of Commercial Glass Ionomer Cements

This study aimed to investigate the impact of N-vinylcaprolactam (NVC) and Nano-sized yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), separately and simultaneously, on the mechanical properties of the commercial glass ionomer cements (GICs). Methods: The NVC is able to ameliorate the mechanical and surface properties of glass ionomers; however, its effect hasn’t been investigated in conjunc...

Compressive strength of glass ionomer cements using different specimen dimensions.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compressive strength of two glass ionomer cements, a conventional one (Vitro Fil - DFL) and a resin-modified material (Vitro Fil LC - DFL), using two test specimen dimensions: One with 6 mm in height and 4 mm in diameter and the other with 12 mm in height and 6 mm in diameter, according to the ISO 7489:1986 specification and the ANSI/ADA Specificati...
